Safety & preparation
The mountain decides, the guide translates
Etna is an active volcano: every tour is designed and led by certified volcanological guides, with routes adapted daily to weather and volcanic activity.
Who guides you
All tours are led by volcanological guides: together with alpine guides, they are the only professionals authorised and certified by law to lead groups on Italian volcanoes. The Regional College of Alpine and Volcanological Guides of Sicily oversees training and professional standards.
Weather and volcanic activity
The guide reserves the right to change, postpone or cancel the tour if weather conditions or changes in volcanic activity endanger participants' safety.
If a tour is cancelled due to weather or a change in volcanic risk, you choose: a full refund or a new date.
Physical fitness
The summit craters and lava flow tours (difficulty 9/10) require good physical fitness: 2–2.5 hour ascents on volcanic terrain, including high altitude. The 2002 craters tour (difficulty 6/10) suits moderate fitness.
If you're unsure which route suits you, message us on WhatsApp before booking: the guide will advise you, no strings attached.
Medical restrictions
Tours are not permitted for people with cardiac or respiratory conditions, nor during pregnancy beyond two months. If you have a specific medical condition, talk to us (and to your doctor) before booking.
Mandatory gear
For all tours: hiking boots, jacket, water and food. The night lava flow trek also requires a headlamp. Helmets, where required, are provided by us. Gear rental is available on site.
Children and minimum age
Minimum age and conditions for younger hikers: being finalised with the guide — contact us on WhatsApp for advice on the best route for your family.
